OrgansPsyche: Imagine you could journey into another person’s mind and remain there for just a little while. What would you see? Not a world made up of defined lines, but a fluid landscape shaded with instinct and emotion... myriad scenes from the human psyche rooted in symbols, like unfamiliar dreams, their waves of figures and faces intertwining, melding in that ocean of otherness. Human psychology, the deeper and sometimes darker recesses of the subconscious, holds the most fascination for me. I’m obsessed with the internal landscape as a universal theme that reflects the entire spectrum of the mind. I like to think of my paintings as veritable maps where the observer can use them as points of reference, inspiration for a journey through the layers that reveal our character with the goal of a deeper understanding of “self.” Water lends itself perfectly to my philosophy of painting; then add the miraculous substance of paint and we have the alchemy of a science that defines the subconscious. Water lives and breathes. I move it across the paper’s surface, caress it... I can almost taste it... feeling it closely as if in foreplay, this process of improvisation to provoke merges into an organics that spews images. But I need to concede first, pay homage to her currents, and find myself in the struggle between too much control and the freedom to allow the liquid to move of its own accord. There lies the mystery of mark-making... surrendering to her flow, where in so doing she reveals the terrain of my own subconscious. My personal language of abstraction captures the wordless, those strange flowering forms, pockets of energy erupting with sensuality, and those flowing pools, like substance become living organs, the guts of our psyches. Layering washes with transparent paints becomes the perfect vehicle for capturing a multiplicity of psychological states. Water as medium is ultimately significant. Its movement across paper and its inherent organics reflects not only the physical world but the metaphysical as well. By “organics” I mean how flowing water creates multifaceted patterns. We live in a fluid world; the physics of hydrodynamics is all pervading. There is an organics of the external natural world, as well as the inner psychic world. Like every other organ the brain, too, is shaped by water, and our most intimate life is the result of its movement. We can say that our psychology is synonymous with the soul of water. Frame these gems in white and under glass and they will glow for you. Painted with the finest mediums on beautiful, archival Arches paper, made in France (paper weight-140 lbs. and 100% cotton... will last forever!) with deckle edges. Gorgeous stuff! When you frame these works they need space to breath, therefore I show thickness at .5 inch, at least, to allow room for thicker paint areas and for the wave of the paper. The artwork should not touch the glass, thus make sure there's a little air space in there for the art to live well. BUT... glass is not totally necessary. If the work is framed sturdily it can exist without glass. Will sign on front or back for you upon purchase. Certificate of authenticity included.
