The title is derived from the rune name “Othala”. It represents our ancestral spiritual power we inherit. It is inspired by the personal psychology theory of C.G.Jung and Freud as well as Celtic and shamanic beliefs on ancestor healing and how it affects our personality. Our inheritance is our legacy. Some push those thoughts aside some embrace them. The unknown space of our subconscious. The origins of human personality lie in the subconscious. Our behaviour is shaped by unconscious feelings, thoughts, and memories. Jung ‘s view extends this viewpoint to the collective unconscious symbolised by the 4 major archetypes: the self, the anima/ animus, the shadow, the persona. This knowledge is inherited from our ancestors. This painting represents those hidden powers. The borders between the conscious and subconscious are fluid. “All the most powerful ideas in history go back to archetypes” C.G. Jung ( “The Structure of the Psyche”)

Everything has a soul Thoughts are creatures. Feelings are beings. Plants can talk. Stones sing. I want to look beyond what we perceive as our physical world. When I walk in nature I get drawn into the texture of tree bark, the vein patterns of a leaf, the sound, but also sense there is more it is the pulse of life. The earth inhales and exhales. Every Tree has an individual character. In mythology every tree is inhabited by spirits. Every house is. How complex is the human soul? Gabriele Höhne grew up in the “Ruhr Valley” in Germany as it transformed from polluted heavy industrial centre to post-industrial cultural hub. After graduation Gabriele worked as an Art Director in advertising and interaction design. Her artistic soul found home in London where she took up painting to, as she puts it, let her spirit fly. Her work explores dreamworlds, perception of life events, and personal emotions
