About The Artwork

This listing is for the two initial panels from the 'Owning Her Desire' series, presented together as originally intended. This diptych creates a bold and layered visual impact. Defying convention they pop off the wall and stare out at us in a way that insists they be seen; not to simply look at them but to recognize their autonomy and presence.  The tension between the figure and the veneer of her backdrop calls into question the ability of fabricated conditions to contain her. These are women who fully engage, who come into direct contact with the world and deem to navigate it on their own terms. To own their sexual power they push back against cultural barriers and the pretexts of obscenity that would keep us from describing it. In the 'Owning Her Desire' series I pull from the personal stories of inspiring contemporary friends as well as images from decades past as a way to reflect on the ties that weave through the generations. Panel One is 34" H x 37" W. Panel Two is 36" H x 38" W. When hung side by side they cover approximately 85". Each figure is a custom baltic birch panel cut to the shape of the pose, which is stacked and mounted on custom panels that have been veneered by the artist with quarter-sawn figured fumed eucalyptus.
