About The Artwork

Oil and pencil on black and white photographic grisaille on canvas. Recreated views of the city. An ideal city wrapped in nature. Nature recovers the space that always belonged to it. The narrative, the story to be told is the most important thing in art: The difficult balance between nature and human beings. Nature struggles to survive and recover the space that man has been taking from it. These images become a metaphor for the times we live in. Another idea is the transformation of the city, the recomposition of the urban space and the arrangement of the buildings to turn them into the Ideal City. This transformative idea is idealized with the important presence of nature that replaces asphalt. Isn't that a great idea? THE TECHNIQUE ITSELF : After working with the photography in the computer, doing all the possible changes to make a different image compared to the ones I have done before of the same view, I print it in black and white with mineral pigments, the best quality printer you can find in the world. Then, back in my studio, I do the transparent resin preparation on the canvas with spatula, getting a very special texture that gives a unique shape. Generally it takes several hours to have the finest texture the painting needs. After that I start with the real wonderful experience that it is to give the colours the painting is asking me to get.

I have studied at the Arts Student League in New York, as well as at several of the best academies in Madrid. Very urbanite, very much interested in Madrid. Also in New York and London. His field of artistic work was always been around the experimentation between painting and photography with very different techniques and subjects. Since 1995 he made great oil works on canvas, almost always reinterpreting his photographs. Photographer from a young age, he has worked for the best magazines and advertising agencies of national level and has made professional trips to more than 30 countries of the world. He also has been a director of photography of several documentaries and commercial films. He has worked in parallel with painting and photography until in 2015 he discovered the technique of oil painting on black and white photography, at last his two passions united in one. He currently lives and works in Torrelodones, Madrid, with his wife and four children.
