"Art exists to show 'the other' side, to make everything less obvious, less clear." Jerzy Treit was born on December 24th, 1969, in Opole, Poland. He attended the State College of Art in Zakopane and in 1991 he started studying History of Art. At the University he established the 'GALLERY 1'. There were exhibited works of Kulisiewicz, Rodzinski, Milek, Olbinski, Picasso’s friend - Nejad, and many others. In 1992 he went to Paris as an art scholarship holder, sponsored by an American Fund. There he met Eva Aeppli (a Swiss painter and sculptor), a well-known new-realist Daniel Spoerri, and Jean Ives Moch–an art critic, who also worked for the Pompidou Centre in Paris. Eva Aeppli allowed Jerzy to use her studio in the center of Paris, and he took part in numerous important artistic events. He paints, draws, does the computer graphic and sculptures. He designs functional art objects and fashion. He is a member of the Association of Polish Pastellists. Since July 2003 he has been the Manager of Regional Community Centre near Cracow. He co-organized the “Open Door”–International Artistic Workshops for youth, artists and the disabled people. He established “Galery in the Country”, with exhibitions of Jacek Sroka–a professor of the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, and the well-known musician Jan Kanty Pawluskiewicz. “If they ask me about my painting, I usually say that I follow a simple path: Monday - me, Tuesday - me, Wednesday - me. To put it clearly - my painting is the response to my life. I find German expressionism very close. I often carry a book of poems by Rilke with his 'Letter to a young poet'. I paint when I am 'steaming', taking a paintbrush in my hand, and I am born anew." At present, the artist divides his time between France and Poland. Jerzy Treit’s works have been presented in many exhibitions in Poland and France. They have become a part of private collections worldwide.
