Art Description

Painting: Oil on Canvas.

Vermeer is a regular source of inspiration. In many of his paintings he features a background wall space which is occupied by a painting or map (with possible narrative/symbolic significance). Here the cardboard has no narrative function and operates merely as a visual foil or deception, rather like a'trompe l'oeil'.
Painted within a shallow space and illuminated from the left by a small studio window this painting uses disposable packaging as a subject.
I wanted the viewer to question their own perceptions and visual expectations.
