About The Artwork

____________________ Peel The title of this artwork is Peel because when I look at it, it reminds me of a banana peel. But it could also be a knight’s helmet. If we wear a Helmet, it gets the function of a skin which protects our Head from injuries. A skin with the same function as a helmet is also owned by fruits or vegetables, which we call a peel. A peel is the outer protective layer which we peel off. But Knights cannot wear a helmet all the time, so who protects them when they are peeled off? The state. This Painting can also be viewed as a state fulfilling its duty of to protect its habitants. That is why they feel secure and optimistic. Green, is the colo(u)r for optimism, so I used this colo(u)r to paint over the fighter jet, swimming pool, hammer, candle and other objects, which you can only see if you come closer to Peel. Yellow painted lines which are connected to each other are living together with a wavy piece of mirror foil on the papers surface. This piece gives the Artwork an element of a collage. Peel is an Artwork which is part of the Reflection series. The artworks of this series have the imprint of my experimentation with the concept of "the Beholder's Share". The beholder’s share is that an artwork is completed in the viewers mind. The viewer interprets in a subjective way what s/he sees while viewing the artwork. With this interaction with the painting s/he is adding meaning to the artwork. To make this dialog and transcendence with the viewer stronger and more realistic, I cut a wavy piece out of a mirror foil and stuck it on the papers surface. What I really love about the reflective area on this painting is that it affirms it is about you and there is something about you in it. The white background embodies one of many meanings of the homonym "reflection". White as an image of the interplay of many thoughts and reflections in one’s mind. The water surface as well as the mirror foil embodies the physical definition of the homonym in Peel.
