About The Artwork

Wanting to paint something outside my wheel-house and comfort zone, I found myself being influenced by the thoughts swirling around in my head. 1) How people are more inclined to see the differences in each other rather than commonalities; and 2) thinking about what to get my 1 year-old granddaughter for Christmas! lol. I was looking at one of those toys where you place the shaped pegs into the correct hole. Obvously, those two thoughts influenced the outcome of this artwork. It's funny how our thoughts manifest in our art. But, I loved the result and it was wicked fun to paint. I hope you enjoy looking at it as much as I enjoyed painting it.

Creating has always been a motivating force in my life since childhood. My art form has changed over the years, it wasn't until late into adulthood that I settled on painting, making it my exclusive focus. Being a self taught artist has allowed me to explore my own unique style without the constraints of tradition or conformity, and eventually finding my "own voice" of lyrical abstraction. My other great passions in life are my husband, son and two cats. My adult son, Aaron, was diagnosed with autism at age 2. He is my greatest pride and joy in life, and sometimes my biggest challenge. He definitely makes me a better person and has helped me slow down, appreciate, and observe the little, simple things in life. I think that has helped me develop as an artist, as well, so for that I am grateful. Art, whether it's music, sculpture, theatre, or paintings, can inspire and motivate us, excite our senses, transport us to another place and time, and touch our hearts. It enriches our lives, bringing a touch of magic and wonder. Thank you for taking the time to view my art. Please my website at debbiejoplinart.com.
