About The Artwork

Oil painting on scrap MDF. I found images in a National geographic magazine of the Wild men of Europe. It is lovely that there are still pagan traditions and rites carried out at various crucial times of the year. Mid summer and Mid winter have been marked for centuries as special times when the days are at their longest or shortest. The fact that at these times we have chosen to morph our shape and faces and limbs often to resemble animals is of great interest to me. I found a piece of scrap MDF in someones studio at V22 in Bermondsey and made this painting quickly and didn't return to pretty it up. I like its' naive quality and the strangeness of the costume. The work is not framed, but has a hanging wire at the back and blocks to keep it off the wall so it hangs flat.
