ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This work is about beautiful yet broken people in a beautiful yet broken world, with background of flowers, tulips. Parts of the Ten Commandments in the source language (Hebrew) are added. Commandments that were meant to be guidelines in this broken world. The tulips are named ''Peter's pride'', after a beloved former Dutch diplomate who happened to be my brother. Each of my works is meant to serve merely as a mirror. As soon as it leaves my atelier it has a life of it's own. I always hope that people seeing my work feel some sort of an emotional recognition and acknowledgement and are able to project their own (life-)stories in it and give it their own title.

I am a Dutch female artist. From childhood on I loved drawing and always felt an urge to create. My first overwhelming experience of art was in front of Picasso's Guernica Museum Reina Sofía in Madrid in my early twenties. I slowly grew in the realisation that I wanted to become a painter because of the urge I kept feeling to express myself via the medium of visual art. In my work I explore the human condition and nature. It's not an explicit message that I want to convey, but a general existential feeling. It's about the delicate line between blossoming, decay and coping and the factors that contribute in that proces. Also I hope to convey some of the mystery that s surrounds all life. My style is somewhere within the range of semi-figurative to (semi-) abstract. I work with all sorts of media, often mixed media. I like to experiment with different kind of techniques. I work mainly with acrylic- and oilpaint, sometimes combined with some form of collage and sometimes I finish it off with a resin topcoat. In my paintings I want to convey the existential feeling of being human and the natural environment that surrounds us with its beauty and threats to it.
