About The Artwork

With my "Phallic Aversion" series I've been working around the question of male nudity in modern culture. On a recent trip to Bruges, Belgium I toured the Groeninge Museum and I became interested in the Flemish primitive triptychs as a form of display. Their exterior paintings are devoid of colour and represent an everyday face to the work, but their interiors are fantastically rich. Following their lead, I developed a triptych of five panels and built a mahogany case. The exterior is an everyday suitable, androgynous figure in gold and black. The interior, a celebration of the male figure in rich purples, gold and yellows, features two male torsos flanking a male nude from behind. Intended to allow my art to be placed in any home, the owner of a triptych can choose who sees their real passion and who is given a more cursory glance. Any of my paintings can be purchased and for an additional cost of $1,250 converted into a 5 panel triptych. The cost includes the additional paintings for the exterior and interior panels and a custom built mahogany case. Please contact me and I will relist the painting you request as a triptych to complete the sale.

Trained as an architect, Bobby utilizes oil and canvas to explore the relationship between male nudity, art and pornography. Prior to relocating to London from New York in 2014, Bobby served as a guest critic for multiple studios at both the Rhode Island School of Design and Columbia University. Bobby also founded ARThomos.com, an online community for queer artists to display their work and develop shared exhibitions. His previous project, Painting Butt, re-imagined a conventional pornographic weekly calendar into a series of paintings. His current work focuses on exploring male nudity, how it is obscured and also magnified.
