ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Piece Of Me (2021) is one of the three collection of originals made using self portraits. The silhouette is used in different ways to express the complexity of identity construction. What’s identity? The person your family knows, might not be the same person that your boss knows. Identity can be everything and it can be nothing, while new tools and softwares redefine what is possible to be, in the media culture, as we constitute ourselves through these very means.

I'm a multi-disciplinary artist with a Master degree in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins. Using my body as a subject, I combine painting, digital media, sculpture and performance art, to consider the female representation in the post-feminist media age. The work reflects upon the entangled and co-dependent nature of millennials and the internet, and responds with absolute transparency to modern narrative conventions that are inextricable part of my reality. I come from a fashion design background, and I grew up surrounded by many controversies about who I should be and how I should act - my family's traditional values made me question my atypical personality, and the continuous exposure to elusive media content made me frustrated with my look. I am motivated by the desire to unpack the vulnerability of white female privilege and the value of women’ bodies in modern society. My artistic practice is a self-reflexive project, to negotiate a space for the production of identity. With my work I’d like to redefine different possibilities of self-expression, and cope with the inconsistencies of my upbringing.
