About The Artwork

Pineapples have long been a symbol of hospitality, but there are deep mathematical patterns that help make their appearance so special. In studying the Fibonacci Sequence's relation to nature, I became deeply intrigued by the pineapple's form. I started making three-dimensional sculptural paintings of pineapples in 2006 with the intention of bringing some of the underlying mathematical principles to the forefront of the pineapples appearance. I didn't want to just mimic a true pineapple; I wanted make it even more amazing--to be shockingly beautiful. After ten years of making three-dimensional pineapples, I believe I have abstracted the mathematical essence to display the deep underlying patterns in the most elegant way. This wall-hung sculptural paintings continue the Pineapple Series that started nearly 10 years ago. Each pineapple is handmade from the frame to the leaves using latex and acrylic materials through a self-developed process. I number each one individually, and #49 is truly exceptional in its colors and form. About the size of a shoe box, it is the perfect accent piece to bring new life to any space. This artwork will definitely add elegance and hospitality to any space!

Drew Cooke is a New Orleans artist working in conceptual and representative formats, mainly focusing on interactions between cities and nature, within groups of people, and between his existence and the objects connected to it. His conceptual work, photo collages, and sculptural paintings have been shown at galleries in New York City, New Orleans, and Oklahoma City. Major artistic influences include Robert Rauschenberg, Tim Hawkinson, Walter Anderson and El Anatsui. Degrees in mathematics and English also contribute to the aesthetics and narratives of his works. In 2015, he abandoned 8 years in mathematical analysis and software development to fully return to artistic pursuits. He is currently working on a series of "art proofs" attempting to logically examine assumptions on gun control and economics, and continuing the Repackaged series examining garbage as personal and social history.
