About The Artwork

I love flowers, especially tulips, which symbolizes spring and the awakening of nature. That's why I chose to paint this magnificent pink tulip, which I had photographed in a garden in the French countryside. I think watercolor is the medium best suited to convey its delicacy. My technique consists of applying a multitude of superimposed transparent layers. It took me 8 hours to make this painting. Watercolor painting on Arches paper 140 lb. High-quality oak frame.

Karine WAGENER is a French painter who was born in Paris, and works there in her studio. In her very close portraits with bright, immediate forms, the artist poses flat areas of vivid colors that collide, free, bold, sometimes biting or sour. Although she often starts from photographs, she recomposes the frame to its own way and metamorphoses them through the sensuality of the oil. She then moves away from the glossy paper and advertising posters to fit into the portrait painting tradition. From the bottom of the child's or woman's eyes staring the spectator, comes a mysterious innocence, a certain dreamlike, distant happiness, it's a hymn to feminity and glamor in all its forms, in all its nuances.
