About The Artwork

My work for the past 40 years has been inspired by my love of surfing, nature and the ocean. I shot this photo in the late afternoon on a spring day at Pipeline in 2005 on the N. Shore of Oahu from angle of the shoulder of the wave on the beach with a 600mm lens. The trade winds were really blowing hard this day. Kids were playing in the early summer sandbar that had built up on the beach. The pro tour and the hoards of pro surfers were long gone. The locals surfers that live and surf here year round took advantage of a nice late spring swell. These days for the local guys that devote each and every day they can when they aren't working to surf Pipe hoping to get the barrel of their lifetime while out surfing with their buddies will build memories that will last a lifetime long after they can no longer stand in the barrel as they did as a young man. No glory, no money, no magazine coverage. Just the feeling that you caught and surfed the best wave you ever caught in your life and hoping one of your buddies paddling out saw your ride. I painted it using the original digital file using a digital airbrush and other photo art techniques I employ. I like show the flow of the water in my images and the vibe of the moment. I shoot my images on both 35mm slide film and digitally. I output the original artwork to either canvas or aluminum and then add acrylic paint at that time when I deem the image demands it. Acrylic paint is added to some of my pieces to highlight certain areas. This painting does not have the acrylic paint added. This particular piece was finished on 12/4/15 and the original has not been printed to either canvas or aluminum yet.
