The majority of my paintings, and all of my recent paintings, are non-objective. Usually, I don't know what I will paint, or where the painting will take me. Instead, the first few lines, determine these for me, and then I paint fervidly, without pause, until the painting is almost complete, barely breathing, only feeling and enjoying the feel of the movement, lines and color. All of my paintings reveal great energy and action, which only makes sense, as it is my painting process as well. I always hate naming my paintings because I don't want to sway a viewer to interact in only one way. Still, titles are required, and this is the one that struck me after I finished painting.

Motion and energy unite in a pervading voice through my paintings. I have tried many different styles over the years. Those first few brush strokes establish the motion and rhythm of the resulting work. I have tried planning a painting by doing sketches first, but I find that very restricting. I have also tried working slowly and methodically, but this tightens me up and I end up with something very controlled and over-worked. What works the best for me is to just set up a canvas and dive in. I work quickly and intuitively, composing as I go. The rapid pace, constant movement, and release of energy is translated in my work. When I’m painting, I’m totally involved in what I am doing and nothing else exists around me. I have spent many years as a metal sculptor, an opportunity that arose while studying for my bachelor’s degree in studio art, and it has provided me with a comfortable living for a very long time. I still enjoy the challenge of designing and constructing in metal, but it’s a very controlled and planned out process and never really fully allowed me to express what I had to say. Painting has finally given me my voice after so many years of silence – I have a lot to say. Painting is my passion, and for me transcends all other experiences. It is a challenge that delights me. I dreamed of being a painter as a little girl, but like most childhood dreams, circumstances and choices in life altered my path. Now, so many years later, I have returned to my first love.
