About The Artwork

The work is inspired by my love for nature and the role it plays in the shamanic world of our natural surroundings. The human interaction and integration of the natural elements and the role we play in coming to terms with our life-purpose is of utmost importance to me as an artist. I love to portray this ideology through my creative and suggestive images to touch other people with an eye for a like mindedness. The medium and materials I use are a continuation of a formula I have manipulated for the past 45 years. I feel comfortable with these material as they allow me to have a freedom and flexibility in creating the imagery I materialise from the ethereal. I am a spiritualist and my conviction of this reality is the basis for my artistic expression.

Bernard Rangel is a self taught artist painting for more than 40 years. His surreal work is a new avenue departing from the established ones of artists such as Miro, Matisse and Max Ernst: it is both creative and visceral. Named "Contemporary Tribal Surrealism" it reflects the Global Village of the 21st century. The lines of his work both in design and colour are creative, coherent, consistent, original and unique, but it all springs forth from a source that is intriguing, like his cultural background. The lines of tribal simplicity fused in solid and amusing lines. In particular when the viewer just looks at the different colour fields the work takes on other dimensions. Bernard has lived in 8 different countries: in both hemispheres and on either side of the globe. Now based in London he explores new ways of presenting his images to a wider audience. His present work can be seen on smartphone protectors, animated videos on YouTube, and in his new studio in Bermondsey at the Biscuit Factory, Block F, Studio 20, SE16 4DG.
