About The Artwork

These portraits are the result of quick drawings I make at the beginning of my studio day. These works help me to leave the daily world outside my studio. And this way I get close to my creative inner self. And so, I can fully focus on my creative process. The portraits show emotions. Emotions that are in my subconscious and come to the surface by working very concentrated and intuitive. I work from the paint tube directly on the paper. Because of this I can put a lot of emotion in the movements. This is the basis. From there I work further by making a print of the base on another piece of paper or by making a print using plastic foil. During that printing I further process the paint with my fingers. In this way several unique works arise from the basic painting.

Ine van der Horn, a sculpture artist from Utrecht, has been working in various disciplines since she graduated from art school. She is not restricted by material or form of expression. She is currently working on sculptures and paintings. What never changes is her interest in people, human emotions and body positions. The sculptures made of paper and leather, possibly combined with other materials, show more realistic human forms. The paintings, acrylic paint on paper, show abstracted faces expressing a particular emotion. These were put on paper directly from her feelings, while the sculptures took more time and reflection. The work grabs you immediately. At first you see the faces, the figures, the pose, the layers with which the work is built up. The longer you look, the more the feeling of the faces and figures is reflected. This is the power of her work. In the artworks, everyone sees what they themselves want to see or feel, as if it were a mirror. It is different for everyone, just as every person is different. Ine studied at the Art Academy in Enschede (AKI) and has her studio in Utrecht. See for more: www.inevanderhorn.nl
