About The Artwork

The painting depicts the iconic headland boulders that protect the northern California coast. Dangerous, beautiful and protected by the Park Service, this part of the coast at the Village of Mendocino, California, has a history of destroying 19th century merchant ships as they came to shore. Today, the village itself retains it's Victorian charm, and the coast retains it's stoic beauty. Stark colors and surreal shapes of rocks, trees and moving water depict an intriguing arched boulder with a small beach below.
