Painting: Oil on Canvas.
No Mud, No Lotus is a series I'm working on inspired by the Buddhist Monk Thich Nhat Hahn. "There can be no lotus without the mud". In our humanity there is suffering, but we can turn our suffering into compassion and connection.
My paintings are a personal exploration of this theme and the recognition of the feminine energies now rising from years of repression to restore balance, harmony and beauty.
I chose the the idea of the lotus rising up from the mud as it has been the symbol in Eastern teachings of the human condition. I am endeavouring to explore ways to express that in a way that is more impressionist than realistic in style.
I hope the viewer will be inspired by the beauty of the paintings and that the expressionistic style of paint on canvas also conveys the underlying theme of our human resilience to rise.
