Rain / Regen Painting

Since 2003 I live and work as a professional artist in Düsseldorf, Germany. I was born 1977 in Iasi, Romania, where I lived until the age of 25. After graduating Fine Art and Orthodox Theology studies in 2001, I’ve got the chance to go to Germany. This journey brought me far away from home and from my roots, but at the same time it made it possible for me to get closer to myself. I came from the conservative society of Romania, from a culture with deep roots in religion and old traditions and whose modern development was blocked from more than 40 years of communism. The end of my studies demanded from me reinforcement, a deepening of my creativity and spirituality through an apparent distance, through a travel into the unknown. From this distance I saw my own roots (personal, artistic and intellectual) much clearly. The distance made possible a clearer, deeper and consequent analysis, socially such as psychologically, of the ever present question: “Where do I come from? Who am I? Where am I going to?” - a philosophical, a psychoanalyzing and, of course, a religious question. My works ask this question again just only by their simple existence in the world. They appear silent, solitaire, mysterious, obscure. From place to place pieces of gold are breaking through like fragments of an image, like the gold from an old, gone time. They tell sometimes about silence, sometimes about movement and sometimes about defeat. I dedicated myself for many years, to the icon painting. 2002 I began to work on big oil paintings on canvas. Also after countless paper works and overpaintings, I found a new interpretation of the old artistic contents using a new language, a new artistic code. And at the same time I returned also to the familiar materials: wood, wax, gold.
