Art Description

Painting: Oil, Ink, Digital on Paper.

Oil on Archival Pigment Print

To put painting as a contemporary pictorial medium to the test, the artwork is inspired by the mechanical use of silkscreen by artists like Robert Rauschenberg. It replaces silkscreen printing with the relatively new process of inkjet printing with the Epson UltraChrome K3 Ink Technology. Working with digitally modified imagery of parts of his paintings, Peter Vahlefeld creates readymade surfaces based on these investigations. The works on paper grapple with reflections over the mediatization of art in general and the subjective traces of painterly expression in particular. UV-medium, oil, and varnish have been applied to a surface, which has been digitally printed as an Archival Pigment Print on Hahnemühle Torchon (285 g/m²). The artwork comes without a frame, rolled in a tube, send in a box–signed and dated on the back.
