Art of Taste: "Palette of the Palate" Abstract Expressionist Oil Painting - Contemporary Art Inspired by Marchesi Antinori 2013 Villa Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva

oil on canvas, framed in natural spruce, ready to hang

ABOUT THE WINE:
Climate
The 2013 vintage was characterized by frequent rains during the winter months and lower than usual temperatures during the spring. But burst took place from ten to fifteen days later than in an average growing season. The heat of mid-July accelerated the ripening of the grapes, which proceeded during the rest of the summer. The high temperatures and the excellent temperature swings from daytime heat to evening and nighttime coolness during the month of September led to a fine ripening of the crop. Picking, generally later than in previous vintages, began on September 25th with the Sangiovese and concluded in mid-October with the Cabernet.

Tasting Notes
An intense ruby red in color, Villa Antinori 2013 shows aromas of red fruit well amalgamated with spicy and balsamic notes. The palate is ample and enveloping and features firm and supple tannins. The wine is very persistent and the aftertaste brings back the notes first felt on the nose.

ABOUT ME:
I am a Contemporary Artist from Napa Valley, California, now living in Lake Garda, Italy with my husband, a winemaker of amphora, natural wines, from Verona, where we just married in August 2018. I graduated with my BFA in Fine Art Painting from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco in 2005. My abstract paintings are interpretations of taste onto canvas.

In Napa Valley, I became established as an abstract action painter where I paint LIVE during food and wine events, magazine parties as well as at large public events like Napa Valley Film Festival, BottleRock and Yountville LIVE, where I interpret the taste of wine onto canvas alongside sipping guests during the party.

Here in Italy, the presentation format of my Palette of the Palate Collection is a series of curated “Art of Taste” events: sensory exhibitions where I work alongside chefs, winemakers and musicians in collaboration to further express our perception of taste as dynamic and all encompassing.

Using my Synesthesia “superpower” I curate and transform the “Art of Taste” from oil on canvas into enveloping and immersive sensory gastronomic experiences.

What would a lemon say if it only had a paint brush? Within this setting, where the painting is created live, my oil paintings become tangible expressions; commemorating flavor. Through my art and these creative collaborations, I explore Italian wines, terroir and culture to expand my body of work and share the experience of taste; invigorating a fresh avant-garde artistic dialogue altogether.

Art of Taste | Synesthesia Artist: Transforming FLAVOR into visual expression, “Painted Tasting Notes” by Contemporary Abstract Expressionist Penelope Moore. p e n e l o p e ★ Art of Taste.™ Contemporary Artist | NAPA/ITALY Abstract Expressionist & Curator of FLAVOR “I want to express my feelings rather than illustrate them.” ―Jackson Pollock ARTIST STATEMENT: I SEE TASTE. Synesthesia is my superpower. I visualize taste as color, texture, pattern and motion as well as experience it as emotion. My paintings are abstract expressions of taste: capturing flavor through color, texture, motion and palette knife strokes in oil onto canvas. Beyond the canvas, I curate story-based exhibitions that cultivate interactive dialogue and create impactful emotional connection. Surrounding art with experience, leaves lingering memory impressions the way the song of a bird resonates after it takes flight from the moment. My intention is to deepen the relationship one has with fine art through storytelling, by blurring boundaries, and confusing the senses. Through the universal language of food, wine and art we are able to transcend culture and create dialogue that dissolves barriers and transforms commonalities; we are able to achieve social inclusion which builds a sense of community, place, and emotional connection. Art has the power to convey emotion; the ability to vibrate empathy through its viewer to communicate a message that is otherwise intangible. I aspire to work with innovative like minded creatives, culinary professionals, musicians, companies and luxury brands in collaboration to elevate flavor into full sensorial experiences, internationally. BIO: Penelope Moore is an established American painter from Napa Valley, California, most recently based in Northern Italy. She has a rare form of Synesthesia where she visualizes flavor as color, pattern, texture and emotion. As an abstract expressionist with roots in the food and wine industry, Penelope’s passion lies at the intersection of art and taste; to express the essence of flavor onto canvas. With her unique ability to experience flavor, she taps into her formal art training as a creative means to communicate and brings taste to life as an immersive visual performance.
