Painting: Enamel, Acrylic, Spray Paint on Wood, Bronze, Steel.
‘Refractor Painting # a..u.D.i.o’ is one of five ‘Refractor Paintings’ which I made and exhibited in Mexico in 2016/7.
Using the language of minimalism and its associated economy of form and material, I create these simple yet complex, colourful abstract paintings from industrial materials. I work with plywood panels and enamel acrylic spray paints. The eight panels in this piece, are inlayed with colored bronze rods and then mounted in a fabricated steel frame.
For these works, I only use over the counter, industrial spray paints. I have chosen to work with a limited palette, using a commercial range of colors that create a striking, glossy finish. I like that people can buy these paints over the counter. I also like that this accessible range of colors is familiar to us and forms part of our day to day urban experience.
