A small village nestled in New York's Hudson River Valley is bursting with sunflowers of every variety, shade of yellow, and size in August. The yellow suns overwhelm the other floral colors also present. This village is my new home and I am seeing its seasons for the first time. I choose to paint in oil because the painting is large and combines many aspects of the community, not necessarily visible at one time as in a typcal landscape. I paint with pallete knives and the result is a moasic effect.

Alix HallmanTravis is an artist who draws her subject matter from her immediate surroundings and activities in the Catskill Mts. and the Hudson Vallery in New York to the “kitchen” inspired still lifes she uses to teach watercolor. From this beginning she often recycles and reinvents earlier works translating new visions with different mediums or several mediums at once. Travis earned awards and signature status in the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society and the NY Plein Air Painters. She regularly exhibits in a growing list of galleries and have been juried into national and international exhibitions, such as The Butler Institute of American Art Midyear Show. She began her art education at the Cleveland Institute of Art. During almost two years at The Art Students League of New York she was awarded the Fantasy Fountain Fund Scholarship Award, a merit award, for study in Paris. While at The Art Students League her painting, "It's a Goal", was juried into "The Athlete and the Artist" competition at the National Art Museum of Sport, Indianapolis. In 2012, 2014 work at the Abita Springs Plein Air exhibition was awarded a Curator’s award by New Orleans ‘own Auseklis Ozols, a noted artist of watercolor himself! She exhibited her Catskill inspired “Catskill Mountain Life; a celebration of community” at the Catskill Foundation's Kaaterskill Fine Arts Gallery, Hunter, NY; several of those works are now hanging in “Observations & Variations”, Blue Hill Art & Cultural Center, Pearl River, NJ. Also in 2017 she was juried into the Hudson Valley Plein Air Festival, and “Plein Air Plus” 2017 PaintOut, “Island Life” Exhibition, Long Beach Island Foundation, Loveladies, NJ.
