ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Rip Current is part of a growing body of work that looks at nature and natural occurrences as metaphors for life and the human experience. Specifically, with Rip Current which is a strong force of water that can sweep even the most experienced swimmer away from shore and out to sea. It's not visible to the naked eye and usually experienced during a time of a play and pleasure, altering that moment into something terrifying and exhausting (emotionally and physically). However, if one has the knowledge base and awareness of what a rip current is and how to escape it, such as not trying to fighting against it, relaxing, etc. they can save themselves and enjoy the beauty of the ocean safely. Life can be beautiful and playful and dynamic however it also has the capacity to cause stress and strain and before we know it we find ourselves getting swept away and when we realize what's happening we try to fight desperately against it. It's scary-beautiful and intense (positively and negatively), and if we have the proper awareness and tools we can whether those taxing moments to bringing us back to ourselves to enjoy what life has to offer.
