For Aykaz Arzumanyan, the process of creating art resembles a physical activity routine, to the point where he reveals: “before I start creating, I must be calm and my muscles must be well warmed up.” The creation of his works is demanding and time-consuming, as each overlay must be placed strategically and precisely, in addition his typical thick oil technique takes a long time to dry. The painter uses special knives specially designed for his technique, in which the canvases, mainly made of linen, are always mounted on wooden frames. Arzumanyan's particular abstraction arises from intense research and synthesis, which the painter summarizes as follows: "I spent a lot of time looking everywhere and finally I found an abstract relief image in my head that looked like to a rose flower. This is how I began to use this technique (oil on canvas in relief with a knife) to create most of my creations." The artist was also influenced by Pierre Soulages, the famous French painter and engraver, whom Arzumanyan would have liked to meet to share with him the love of abstract art, as well as the possibility of exchanging some technical and interpretive secrets about the genre. The innermost intention of Arzumanyan's painting is to convey to the viewer, through its characteristic shadows, shades and reliefs, a feeling of joy and happiness, mainly due to an almost entirely monochrome, extremely decided and vital.
