I like to read the myths of ancient Greece and visualize legends in my own way. This painting is dedicated to the history of the queen of flowers - Rose. The artwork was painted with beeswax with color pigments: wax paints made according to an ancient recipe, which allows the painting not to lose color and pristine appearance for centuries. Such a technique has proved itself throughout the history of mankind and art. This artwork could be framed for free by wooden frame or if you don't want – without it. Dimensions with frame 108*108 cm. The legend which gave the inspiration for me: The famous poetess of the era of Ancient Greece - Safo called the rose only as "queen of flowers." The famous philosopher Socrates considered this flower the most beautiful and useful. As the myths of Ancient Greece read, the temples erected in honor of the goddess of love were surrounded by chic rose gardens, and the goddess herself often indulged herself in baths with rose water to maintain beauty. According to one Greek legend, the rose was created by the goddess of flowers Chloride (Flora in the Roman tradition). Seeing the breathless body of the nymph in the forest, she tried to revive her. The efforts were in vain and in memory of the nymph she decided to create at least a flower. From Aphrodite, the goddess of love, she asked for beauty for him, from Dionysus, the god of winemaking, nectar for a captivating aroma. The Three Graces gave the flower brilliance, joy, and color, and Zephyr, the god of the west wind, dispersed the clouds so that the sun god, Apollo, warmed the rose with his tender warmth. The first rose was presented to Eros, the god of love. According to another legend, white roses appeared from splashes of water at the time of the birth of Aphrodite, and the red rose was created by Aphrodite herself: mourning Adonis, she created it from her tears and the blood of her beloved. Some sources claim that the rose blushed due to the negligence of Cupid, who dropped a drop of wine on her. This painting was shown at the exhibition «Floral myths of Hellas», Russian Art Museum in Moscow (Russia, August. 2020)

I'm a contemporary Russian artist. I took the family name Mamontova for a pseudonym, inspired by the family history: my great-grandfather was the Russian merchant Vasily Mamontov, he continued the family business of the XVIII-XIX centuries in trade and delivery of goods from England to Arkhangelsk and the Urals on the Mezen river. Here you can make sure that my pseudonym is officially registered. The study of the history, traditions and arts of different countries and the continuous search for new images give me the opportunity to explore all forms of life and transfer this experience to others by my paintings. The one of the main goals of my work – the revival of cultures and art from different eras, the popularization of forgotten knowledge. Right now I work in 3 techniques: – classical oil painting, – decorative-applied art “encaustic” – an ancient method of painting with hot beeswax with pigments, – the author's technique Oρείχαλκος – oil on brass. I live and work in 2 places – Moscow, Russia and Alanya, Turkey.
