About The Artwork

This artwork on canvas is an original mixed media collaboration by Dennis Eavenson and Sharon Eavenson created in 2004. This work utilizes surrealism and symbolism with playing cards dealt that produce a Royal Flush hand during a poker card game. It deals with scientific and psychological aspects related to thought process in the act of probable outcomes from the cultural activity of card gaming. Our ray like lines have become drape like and the viewer feels the presence of a stage as we open a dialogue with the dominant diamond shape set beside a large rectangle. The viewer is asked to consider the outcome of actions as cards, smaller diamonds and molecular elements dance across the composition. All the works in this series discuss matter, time, space and how it relates to probability and gaming activity. Each piece begins with our digital painting that become mono-prints printed with our Epson Stylus Pro printer with Epson Ultrachrome pigmented inks. We then applied our gestural abstract expressionist marks using acrylic paint and acrylic gel to create a one of a kind symbolic work that has pop and surreal aspects. Artwork is signed on the front and signed and dated on the back by both artists. Final sheet size is 35.5 x24.

Dennis Eavenson and Sharon Eavenson are collaborative visual artists that are married, residing in Lithonia, Georgia, USA and actively producing new art works for sale and exhibition. Our works encompass a wide range of styles and mediums. For us the act of artistic creation is passionate, labored, joyful and liberating. Visual exploration provides us with the fuel for inner growth and development. It shapes and molds our shared life journey in an enriching way. Offering our visions to others is a means of inspiring and commenting on the the world we know. In unexpected ways we open doors to spiritual, scientific and cultural awakenings that drive and challenge our human existence. Our artistic styles encompass abstraction, abstract expressionism, surrealism, realism, symbolism, pop, and a fusion of these categories. Based on our thematic directions, we decide on a medium that lends itself to our visual responses to the world we inhabit. Our ideas are expressed through painting, drawing, photography, digital painting, collage, assemblage, sculpture, relief and found objects. Notebooks also include conceptual pieces. Thematic explorations through the decades address science, socio-cultural issues, human behavior, psychology, spirituality and theology. The use of card playing elements and gaming activity refers to the human need for status, dominance and territorial acquisition. Secondary concepts address psychological concerns, gender roles, political power, negotiation tactics and methods for social harmony. Compositions provide the viewer with visual queues for prompting reflection on cultural, psychological stances, political, philosophical and religious themes. Emotional energy and spirituality emanate from these art works filled with pop culture images, personalized signature shapes and scientific symbols. Grounds and fields of dynamic abstract expressionist brushwork juxtapose with concrete card characters creating complex spatial relationships and unexpected optical color effects. Representational and abstract elements combine to create visual rhythm, tone and mood with strong psychological undercurrents. Many human games including cards mirror quantum theory and the random aspects present in the mathematical laws of probability. This touches on questions about the physical universe and our human placement within this concrete reality.
