This piece reflects my current interest in reimagining traditional landscape painting through a very personal lens.

In astronomy the “terminator” refers to a line separating the light and dark sides or the day and night of a celestial body. This could be any satellite including the earth. When we view a sunset we are experiencing this line moving across our home planet.

Each sunrise or sunset is a unique and singular experience. This painting was inspired by the beauty of twilight on the plains.

Paul was born in Viborg SD in June of 1967. Growing up on a farm in Southeastern SD has given Paul an intimate understanding of rural life and a unique perspective as an artist. The paintings are colorful, emotionally autobiographical and mirror the artist's feeling of connection to the land. Paul lives in the Black Hills of South Dakota with his wife and daughter. He is adjunct faculty at BHSU and when he is not teaching or painting he can be found playing guitar(sometimes singing) at local restaurants, bars, churches, coffee shops, festivals etc....
