About The Artwork

In 2008 artist Jane Twigg and I went back to the Curfew Tower, in Cushendall, Northern Ireland. The Curfew Tower is Cushendall's much-loved landmark, and also houses an artist residency. Jane and I had both been artists in residence before, and had found the Tower to be a place of much work, joy, healing, a special place that has a profound effect on people. We returned to the Tower in February to say thanks. We did this by enlisting the help of the people of Cushendall - from ages 9 to 99 - to help us to make a massive scarf for the Tower. This was meant to be a symbol of love, caring, and thanks to a building that had meant so much to so many. The scarf was made from the townspeoples' discarded jumpers, making something new out of things that were unwanted.
