About The Artwork

To punish Munoe King Jay Crambo and Queen Spleen, Queen Kiok and the Tuplets have kidnapped and cooked their son Putt-Putt. ARTIST'S NOTE: Sacrifice of Putt-Putt (2013). This piece scales over five feet high, and is a combination of painted paper and acrylic applied directly to the canvas. This work references 15th century Flemish painter Dieric Bouts’ "Last Supper". “Although I use the process of collage to create many of my works, I believe, the term “collage” can be misleading. For many people this term will conjure up images of an artist using “found source material”, (i.e. cutting images from magazines and posters, etc.). In Sacrifice of Putt-Putt, none of the collage materials originate from the aforementioned sources, rather, each scrap of paper you see is made by my hands. This work, along with many others, is created through a process of manually cutting, pasting and painting. Sacrifice of Putt-Putt is as much a sociocultural/emotional collage, as it is a physical combination of visual elements.

The narrative of this imaginary world is used as a tool to investigate a variety of themes such as: representation as affirmation, racism and systemic oppression, personal/political identity and memory.
