This oil painting, titled Sea Shells and Summer, captures a vibrant still life scene, featuring a white vase adorned with delicate accents, a striped bowl, vibrant citrus fruit, and a seashell. In the painting I use bold, expressive lines and playful color blocks to create a sense of rhythm and movement within the composition. The overlapping planes of turquoise blues, greens, and yellows provide a interesting geometric backdrop, while the pops of lemon yellow add a lively contrast, evoking the warmth and energy of a summer day. The interplay of light and shadow in the painting are treated with a unique style adding a bit of surprise to the idea of a still life painting. When I think of summer at the beach there's always an element of the unexpected that adds to the joy of a day off and vacation. The artwork hopes to inspire a that sense of freedom and excitement in simple pleasures, drawing attention to the beauty found in everyday objects. This is a signed original oil painting created on a gallery wrapped canvas that comes ready to hang. The artwork can also be framed.

ARTISTS STATEMENT: I observe, and participate in, the change of hues. I stand alone in a perspective—influenced by the roads and detours that I’ve chosen. The subjects I interpret on canvas dance with tradition, but underneath exists an individual search for freedom. As a creator, I’ve always been interested in working with color. I see my life as having a palette of its own and I seek to have the chroma of my experiences come through in my paintings. Over time, I’ve realized the only way to achieve this goal is to risk exposure—to unveil my simplified forms to the viewer. Whether the forms operate within the context of landscape or still life, the resulting narrative is always a story of merit, regardless of public perception or understanding. BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: I was born in Vancouver, BC in 1958 and then moved to California which is where my parents originally met. I lived there until I was 6 when my family moved across the US to New Jersey for my father's work. I grew up in a creative family and pursued art in college only to leave it upon graduation, dabbling with it over the years that followed. In 2010 I returned to painting on a more committed basis. This was spawned by some significant life changes and painting became my respite. I still reside in New Jersey and as an artist I appreciate the proximity to both Philadelphia and New York City. I've been showing my work since 2011 and continue to do so.
