Searching for Icarus Painting

This painting was inspired by the story of Icarus, the boy who dared to fly. During a very dark period in my life I had begun to question if I would allow my choices to leave me trapped and hopeless or if I, like Icarus, would build wings and make an attempt to find the freedom I once felt. I imagined myself on his trail, finding the feathers left behind by the melted wings near the splash marking his fall into the ocean. I wanted the painting to play a dual function in the "there-ness" of imagination (Icarus' time) and the "here-ness" of now, in my life and time. In the end, I found hope in the story, and the painting continues. The painting is quite heavily textured and is on canvas glued to aluminum panel. It is framed in a plain black frame. This painting was a finalist in Figureworks 2018 in Ottawa last year.
