Self-Reflection Painting

After a long and stressful year (2020), I decided to create a work that centered around the self. This piece is titled self-reflection as the piece is staring back at you. This year especially called for a lot of self-care, deep thinking, and reflecting to be done to figure out how to cope and think about the events that occurred this year. I hope viewers will think about how the preceding year affected them and those around them as many faced hardships such as sickness, death, financial struggles, and an array of other issues. Taking the time to reflect on past issues and successful times allows for growth and that is what I encourage viewers to achieve, growth. I chose acrylic as my medium. For the background, to get the desired texture, I wrapped it in plastic wrap and allowed it to dry for 12-15 hours. Doing this created the streaks in the background as intended.
