This was one of the first of my series of self portraits that brought on major criticism, to my knowledge Zinaida Serebriakova was one of the only artists to have ever painted their self as continually smiling, most self portraits are some what concentrated and focused in their expressions. This one was resolutely lambasted for being an angry, morose, depressed expression, I cannot say whether I painted it with any emotion in mind apart from the act of painting, I was absorbed within the process, but the back drop to my existence is a business within which I can never succeed, for my 'family' business is judged by people who have never done the job, will never accept my opinion about the status quo and all achievements are nullified by their constant knowledge that I am sitting on their investment. In my mind I am consistently achieving something superior to any of my predecessors, but the fact that that is lost on my family means I feel that I am constantly treading water.

Morocco
I live in Marrakech, I am an autodidact, I am currently learning arabic and Darija (moroccan arabic). Before Morocco I lived in Spain and taught myself Spanish. I do not believe that a meaningful life should be easy, I like a challenge, learning Darija and running the family 'business' has been my greatest challenge so far. I left the U.K. when I was 24, I have travelled through a bit of Europe and now hopefully Africa. As a child I was diagnosed with dyslexia, which was first noticed when I was to take part in a school play where all the other children in my class had lines to learn, I had a noise to make, later my child psychoanalyst would state that my first language had been a visual language.
