"For my freelance jobs I work digitally, quickly and on call. To paint I return to the analogue world, work with my hands, have to wait and learn to take the speed out of the creative process." And despite this difference between advertising and art, between computer and canvas, his painted works are inextricably linked to his comprehensive understanding of digital image processing. Rigid grids of serial rectangles that seem to grow organically, leaving their high-gloss surface, become touchable and seem to grow organically. And yet there is more to it than just a technical implementation of digital design possibilities, since his pictures are based on classical art-historical topoi. Fredes' pictures carefully and vividly translate these traditions into our increasingly digital cultural horizons.

Frede grew up in Sondershausen (Kyffhäuserkreis), graduated from high school in 2000 and then moved to Cologne for his civilian service. At that time he already started working as a freelance artist and self-taught photographer. Mostly active as an artist on a project basis until 2014, Frede has been working in his own studio in Cologne-Porz since 2015. Work As a freelance artist, Frede is concerned with the translation of traditional concepts of painting and photography into the ways of seeing everyday life, which are increasingly shaped by digital processes. From 2004 to 2012, he initially designed backdrops for various theatre plays consisting of pure canvas projections. In this collaboration with theatre director Gregor Leschig ("Netaffairs - Heiner Müller's Quartet and Life on the Internet", "Bin ich Arbeit?[1]" and "Play Sisyphos"), socio-critical themes move to the centre of his works. His exhibition "gemalte Kästchen" ("Painted Boxes") first attracts greater attention, which later reappears in various group and solo exhibitions as "Serielle Rechtecke" ("Serial Rectangles"). In 2016, Frede initiated his photographic intervention "I was here" for the first time. This confronts people living today with the German past at perpetrator sites of the Nazi era. With the photo series "Young Men and Carcasses" he is represented in exhibitions worldwide in 2017 - 2018. In his latest pictures, Frede addresses the 4th industrial revolution by having robots work for him in increasingly independent ways. In his diverse works, Danny Frede deals with questions of the digital revolution, consumption and problems of automation.
