About The Artwork

This painting is called “Serie di Venezia No. 1” and has the distinction of being the first painting I have made in almost 15 years and is also the first in a series of paintings featuring interesting scenes I have witnessed in my travels to Venice Italy. This painting is a personal point of pride for me because even though I’m a little bit rusty on technique, the final image turned out exactly how I envisioned it. This particular scene was from a random alleyway around 5pm with the sun quickly leaving the amazing walls darker and darker. Another fact about this painting is that it is painted over an existing painting I had done 15 years earlier and was one of two that were to be a series of the study of the color Red. They both sat under the bed for years before I dug them out and decided to re-use the canvases. This painting is complete and ready to hang. Painting Details: (All materials used are a mix from mid-late 90’s and contemporary replacements) -Pre-Stretched Canvas, 36x24” and personally prepared with Gesso and an additional original painting “under coat” -Brushes; Grumbacher Bristle, Flat #2, #3, #4, Round #1, Winsor & Newton -Bristle Filbert #2, Princeton Bristle Flat #2, #3 -Paint; Winsor & Newton Artist Colour, Winsor & Newton Winton and Grumbacher PreTested (back when it was good), 14 different base colors mixed to hue and varying thickness. Liquin and Colbalt dryer agents used to thin paint and speed-up “drying time” - Final painting was sealed using 2 coats of High Gloss Damar Varnish after three (3) month “drying” time Custom Frame Details: Shadow Box style frame made of Red Oak by the Artist exclusively for this painting in 2018. - Frame dimensions are 38x26x2 1/8” - Shadow width ¼” from canvas to frame and the frame edge width is 3/4” wide - Frame is Stained and Varnished with 2 coats of Dark Ebony Satin finish - 100lb. rated picture cable (overkill I know…) through stainless steel eye-hooks is used to hang the entire piece. (10lbs. total weight for canvas and frame) As always, I welcome the opportunity to discuss making a similar Original Commissioned Piece (it will NOT be a copy, but shall have the same feel as the original). All Commissioned Painting requests are welcomed.

John is a Professional Photographer and traditionally trained Illustrator who is based out of Los Angeles, CA (aka Hollywood). Having been trained in all aspects of Film Photography in the 90's, where he won the "Most Outstanding Photographer" award his last year at University, he has never really wandered too far away from his film roots and his style and knowledge reflect that education. Currently, he shoots Images for TV shows and Movies where his work is seen around the world and featured in numerous Ad Campaigns. Apart from his "daily Hollywood" work, he considers his "Street Photography" imagery to be his true passion when it comes to his own "pure Photography." ---- With a background in Architecture/Design and Illustration, part of John's Education was in Oil Painting, a medium he instantly fell in love with at University. He has had a couple of start and stops over the years, but is now back in the "studio" whenever he can carve-out the time. John jokingly describes his Oil Paintings as, "Cheaper than going to therapy", and has been re-mused, painting with the passion he had when he first discovered the world of painting. His style has been described and "heavily Impressionistic" and it is something he takes great pride and joy in hearing. Ever challenging himself, John has always been attracted to the Pen & Ink Watercolor style of urban sketching and has now also added that Meduim to his arsenal of Art. "Watercolor is a fascinating medium to work with, it's alive and loves to do its own thing, many, many mysteries." he comments. Welcome to John's Saatchi Page and enjoy exploring.
