About The Artwork

The theme of the paintings is the fragility of human and transience of all things. While I was working on the paintings I did a lot of walking and wandering outdoors, looking at the nature. I also sought inspiration from the works of impressionists, however I do not use the work of others as a base for my own paitings, rather as kind of tools to get in the right mood for painting. Confluences with art history are often accidental as I browse through art books at the studio.

Helsinki based Unski Antti Immonen (born 1981) works with paintings, photography and animation. His work discusses about social and political questions such as identity, power, shame and empathy. He works using both digital and analogical methods. Immonen uses picture material found on the internet, magazines and movies as well as his own performative photographs which he himself often poses in. The movies, television, advertising and media offer a certain picture of the world. When we look at photographs or scenes from a movie, what do we actually see and how much do our minds fill in? These questions are the center of Immonen's work. By questioning values that advertising, politics and media offer, we can reveal unpleasant truths about society and ourselves. The crucial question is, can we trust our own views. Immonen has gratuated as Master of Fine Arts from the Finnish Academy of Fine arts in 2015 and as Visual artist from Art School MAA in 2011.
