We have big skies where I live and work. Because it's England, our weather isn't always that great, so a sunlight, sky is worth capturing. From my west facing studio, I am lucky to have farmland behind it for miles and no hills. The skies are dominant here and are an impressive and captivating study. I can't remember why I started painting skies and clouds, but since I started, I see more and more to paint. Mostly dramatic! I can stare at the sky and clouds, the way they're lit, or the form they take is constantly changing, the light is never the same from one minute to the next. This makes painting them, both a challenge to be relished and extremely satisfying when the painting is finished and the moment is captured. This painting is about giving sunlight to the darker days of the year and offering a sense of hope for better times. I choose to paint with oil for the depth and luminance it gives as well as the mobility and slowness of practice it demands.

Bridget is an artist working in oils, acrylics and watercolour. She is a self taught artist living in Suffolk, UK. She works out of her shepherd hut studio at her home, selling and exhibiting paintings both from her studio and from local exhibitions around Suffolk. Bridget's work reflects her passion for contemporary painting. Her use of bold colour and sweeping brush strokes in all her paintings, make her work energetic and very distinctive. Bridget's work shows a response to an ongoing narrative between her and the painting as it slowly reveals itself, no formal plan is made, so the joy and freedom of creating remains the main focus. Always looking for balance, she pushes and pulls the paint, playing to her strengths and immersed in the drama of creating. Her compositional choice is heavily influenced by both the land and cloudscapes from her studio viewpoint and the relationship between the land and sky.
