ABOUT THE ARTWORK
How, oh how can it be August 1st already! We wait all year long for summer and it is now feeling like a blip on the calendar. The summer in the north east has been effected by climate change, no doubt about it. Not a day goes by that we dont receive emergency texts about severe weather around 5-7pm. Temps are all over the map and the visits to the beach have been the fewest I can remember. In this painting I used watercolors with lots of transparencies and added a black matt gouache paint that is opaque, as a contrast. I particularly like that part of the piece.

I use pop culture references focusing on celebrity, fashion, and cinema in combination with my private emotional life that changes from day to day. Using images that I find in the halls of the internet and transform through my imagination (as well as photographs that I take myself), I switch back and forth between oils and water-based paints to keep the flows of the painting as fresh as possible.
