Orchid Garden

Orchid is the flower of joy. According to a legend of New Zealand Maori tribe it was born out of the first rainbow on Earth, a gigantic colourful bridge of which crumbled under the weight of descended immortal ghosts. The shape of a flower reminds an exquisite butterfly.
Placer of flowers, just as a flock of moths, sitting on a twig, reminds us of a fleetingness of life and unearthly beauty of nature. Patterns and colour combinations of this amazing exotic plant are marvelous, they create rich scale of emotions: delight, tenderness, curiosity, anxiety… Orchid can be very different, tiger predatory, snow-white and light, velvety, enigmatic at times, of a deep violet, crimson and even purple colour, sunny yellow, childishly pink, pure, innocent or brightly flamboyant... Luxury, perfection, magnificence, defiant eroticism, perfect beauty, intimacy sometimes, these are but a few epithets due to enigmatic and many faced plant.
In my paintings orchids shape into bizarre compositions of fairy tale gardens, where golden disk of the sun can be found next to silver one of the moon, where the mood in one picture can change from early morning freshness to languid bliss of a deep evening, where moon energy succeeds the one of the sun and an enormous ball of the celestial luminary falls apart into multitude of sunny bunnies creating joyous mood in the picture.
Here again the subject of fertility is present. Ability to procreate and regenerate. Fertility. Birth of a new life. Anticipation and expectation. A cycle. The laws of nature and of the entire Creation. Desire of all living organisms to propagate life. Rebirth. Metamorphoses of forms and phenomena.
This collection is a hymn to life, beauty, femininity, the latter being impossible without masculinity. The canvases are saturated with sensuality in various guises, sometimes it is a passion bordering on aggression, sometimes tenderness and awe.
These gardens never bore a viewer as they are dynamic and stay in a constant process of transfiguration. Large forms are in contrast with small ones, the latter at times become exquisitely fine. Multilayered compositions, a play with formats and perspective, transparent glaze always make viewer discover again and again new details, colour combinations, unexpected silhouettes depending on light source and position of a viewer. Actually, the painting becomes a living organism in a personal space of the one who looks at it.

About me I have a higher professional artistic education and a diploma from the Latvian Art Academy, department of monumental painting. Before the Academy I had studied at and finished with distinction department of easel painting as well as department of illustrations at Janis Rozental Riga Art High School. I further honed my skills of wall-painting and graffito at Florence University of the Arts. Since 2007 I have been a member of the artists’ union of Latvia. First place winner in the artistic scholarship contest named after professor Indulis Zarins. I opened more than twenty personal exhibitions and took an active part in group shows including exhibition at the gallery “Crous-Beaux-Arts” (Paris). I am proud to have been chosen to represent the art and culture of Latvia at the international conference Baltic Connecting to high-ranking guests from China, South Korea, the USA and Japan. I teach actively and conduct visiting master classes as well as run my own studio-gallery Karine Paronyanc Art studio in Riga. In my creative workshop I work with groups of children and adults (drawing, painting, composition), host corporate art-events, deliver lectures. Co-organizer, custodian and participator of international exhibition of artists of Latvia, Lithuania and Armenia “Armenian palette” at the Latvian Academy of Arts. Co-organizer of travelling exhibitions summer cycle “Flora Magica”. My credo lies in my belief that art should transcend habitual familiar exhibition space and search for new ways to interact with a viewer. My works are inspired by limitless possibilities of colour, infinity of visual forms and creative opportunities. Through colour, light and ornament I share with you my delights and joy of existence. The process of creation for me is an amazing journey in which the Sun, Cosmos, salt of the Earth and Nature’s rhythms applied to canvas surface create absolutely new dimensions in your personal space. The collection «Watermelons» took a very special place in my biography: watermelon-lotus has become my symbol, company logo and identification mark. I firmly believe in the importance of art, possibility to combine exquisiteness of form with a depth of content and joy of living. I cannot see any contradiction in a positive message of an art piece and serious semantic component. This is what makes my approach to art.
