Art Description

Painting: Watercolor on Paper.

Abstract landscape inspired by Spring cherry blossom.

This is one of a series of small watercolour studies that may one day form the basis of some large oil paintings. After an absence of forty five years spent learning to draw and paint the real world, I thought it might be time to abandon objective reality. I've been revisiting abstraction, which I used to enjoy in my student days. What I've found is that its all to easy to do abstraction badly and extremely difficult to do well. As Degas said “Painting is easy when you don't know how, but very difficult when you do."
