About The Artwork

- Ready to hang, no frame required. - The canvas is stretched on a hidden wooden frame, feel free to ask for a rolled canvas without the frame. - Signed along the bottom left edge. - Open to commission of custom sizes/color palette. Please feel free to contact us via davidlouis.com “Then Moses raised his hand over the sea, and the LORD opened up a path through the water with a strong east wind. The wind blew all that night, turning the seabed into dry land.” (Exodus 14:21) According to Jewish tradition, the Children of Israel were slaves to Pharaoh in Egypt for 210 years. The Exodus from Egypt and the splitting of the sea symbolize the coming out from slavery and from materialism into freedom and spirituality. This great national miracle shows that underneath the wonder of nature is the hand of God directing and leading to the Promised Land. Therefore this composition, to which I return again and again, each time in a different approach, is truly a combination of the aesthetic pleasure of oil painting with the purposes and benefits of religious belief.

“Jerusalem is my home, the city of the most heavenly peace and the most difficult wars. I was born in Chicago, Illinois, and moved to Israel in 1978. In my youth, I knew very little of Zionism or Judaism. The force that drew me to the land of Israel was neither philosophy nor religion. I simply gravitated unconsciously, with geological slowness, towards the underlying truth of my own existence. Today, as a Rabbi I find myself very fortunate to be a part of this place. Here, in this land, surrounded by breathtaking landscapes and deep rooted culture, I try to capture this magical feeling of holiness I feel deep inside.” David Louis is an Israeli artist , a Jewish Rabbi and a lecturer on Kabbalah and Bible. He presents art shows of oil and watercolor paintings on various techniques and genres: coloristic and illusionist landscapes with personal interpretations, pulsing and pulsating abstract works. David lectures all around the world on the metaphysics of the Hebrew letters according to the most ancient traditions. As a painter from childhood and from a long line of painters, he finds inspiration for paintings in his mystical studies. His art is based on long years of deep research of the Jewish Bible and inspired by the unique landscapes of Israel. Louis’ living craft begins with the making of paint, continues with the harmonious blending of colors, and culminates in an infusion of intuition and inspiration. The composition is a dialogue between thoughts and hesitations, unknowables and traditions, decisions and doubts, contemplations and sudden insights.
