ABOUT THE ARTWORK

St Ives, tiny cobbled streets set back in hilly nooks & crannies with 'higgedly piggledy' quaint fisherman's cottages, no room for board walks or large pavements here, locals mainly visit in winter so we can avoid the crush of visitors, driving through is a feat in itself during summer months! The Art history of St Ives is superb, I wrote my dissertation on it and absolutely love the place, always a favourite of Lindsey's to paint with exception to many windows and doors! Mainly large household brushes used on this one, also the fan brush for detailing and flecking for the beach, much fine detailing for the architecture, with a range of small brushes. The natural world is the source of my inspiration, the sounds of the ocean, beach and dunes evocative of childhood memories in Cornwall. In recent years during many hours of river/ocean rowing and competing on Cornish shores, my work has evolved lending amazing transparency, fluidity & reflections to my artworks, the adrenaline, energy, salt spray and high winds creating my style of 'Tidalmarks'. The environment and impacting political issues caused by man-made pollution is a driving force for new and emerging work. . I donated a painting to the 'Save our sands' community group, Hayle, Cornwall, in April 2011, following 20 tons of sand being over dredged and killing the dune system. Further to this, my work has been a tribute to my late mother who was an environmental scientist and in June 2015 'The Summer Exhibition', held on national beach clean day June 2016, at Stisa, St Ives. Landscapes have been a starting point, however, I have also been researching and investigating the news and diverse cultural approaches to pollution and Climate change, due to poverty these issues will always be subjective to finance first, but living in harmony with nature is the future and small changes make a big difference, it's surely about how we reach these objectives together globally, putting differences aside, such a big ask I know. But I have to believe for my children and the future generations that we have to #bethechange. #makeadifference
