Art Description

Painting: Watercolor and Digital on Paper.

St. Lucia’s Day is celebrated in Sweden on December 13th in honor of St. Lucia. One of the earliest Christian martyrs.
The festival marks the beginning of the Christmas season in Scandinavia and it is meant to bring hope and light during the darkest time of the year. Families observe St. Lucia’s Day in their homes by having the eldest daughter dress in a white gown with a red sash wearing a lighted wreath crown. She goes from room to room serving coffee and saffron bread (lussekatter) to the other members of the family.
