ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This man walking on the street in this painting is an abstracted figure that was based on the proprietor of Mahtay Cafe in downtown St. Catharines in Niagara, Canada. The scene behind him is a painterly abstracted motif based on the Performing Arts Centre that was then being built across the street. Downtown St. Catharines has since become a thriving art centre in Niagara. This painting is a celebration and a marker in time to all of this. This has been my home and where I have been painting for the last 6 years of my life. This painting means a lot to me in this way, and also I created it in such a way as to be contemplated upon in a more general way with a painterly figure on a street within a theme of change, potentiality, and exploration.

My art studies began on the west coast of Canada before moving to New York City to train at the Art Students League from 1997 to 2002. Currently living and painting in Niagara, Canada, my paintings have been shown across Canada, in New York and Washington D.C., and in Sweden, Norway, and Trinidad. The figures in my paintings look out as much into mindscape as landscape.
