Painting: Household, Ink, Acrylic on Wood.
Recently I became fascinated by monuments and works that commemorate. This work was inspired by the mosaics made in public spaces during Communism. It depicts a flag flying realistically but also abstractly as the bottom half is in the shape of a flag and painted red. The image is actually a mash up of the two most famous photographs of WW2, the 'Raising of the Flag at Iwo Jima' and Khaldei's 'Soviet Flag Over the Reichstag' both of which were entirely staged. There is over a thousand small squares attached to a backing onto which the image was burned. The bottom is painted.
