Starting From Scratch Painting

I love to combine paper and acrylic paint, ovals with rectangles, positive with negative and black with white. The idea here was to create interesting and unexpected combination of shapes and shades in visible layers. I cut out ovals and circles in heavy paper and arranged them on the canvas and painted the entire canvas a soft, warm white. Using my signature stamp technique, I applied several tones of gray and black acrylic paint over the white. I scraped and sanded the finished work to degrade the paint and achieve a rough, imperfect style.
