I painted this artwork in September 2018, inspired by a research about Brazilian folk culture and found an old childhood song from popular culture, called Capelinha de Melão which means Melon Chapel. This song is usually sung during the typical Brazilian "festa junina" (the annual Brazilian celebrations adapted from European Midsummer that takes place in the southern midwinter) also known as the "festa de São João", celebrating the nativity of St. John the Baptist (June 24). Not only people sing a song for St. John the Baptist as they build a small chapel made out of a melon. I was also inspired by the artworks of Henri Matisse and Roy Lichtenstein, who are always my muses.
Add a wood frame and I think this artwork will go great with a contemporary hip and cosy kitchen.
